Jot Mood Board 12

There's a new mood board challenge for December over on the Jot Magazine blog this week which has been created by Jot Girl Raquel Bowman.  Just look as those pretty it!!!

Here's my sample below.  I LOVED putting this page together.  Pretty pinks, blues and greens...and plenty of glittery silver too!  So fun creating a Christmas page that wasn't the usual red/green combo that I usually use for festive pages.

My three little people are so excited about Christmas this year.  It can't come fast enough for them!

We'd love for you to join in the challenge as well this month!  You can find all the details and more samples from our other team members on the Jot blog HERE and you've got until 31 December 2013 to enter. We can't wait to see what you come up with! :)

Christmas Cards...

I don't get the time to make cards as much as I used to so I always love being asked to take part in a Stampers' Challenge with Cardmaking, Stamping and Papercraft Magazine!  It's the perfect excuse to play with paper and ink again! For last month's issue (Vol 19 No 12) I got to play with some cute Christmassy stamps from The Crafts Meow and it was such a fun surprise to see one of my cards on the cover!

These stamps are called "Santa's Little Helper".  They're so festive and so fun to play with!

I decided to paper piece the images which was a little fiddly but so worth the effort!  I love this little wagon filled with presents!

I used foam tape to add a little dimension to the wagon and used buttons for the wheels...

And how cute are these little elf legs and hat!

Again I pieced the images together using paper/cardstock and added some rhinestones for a little sparkle on this one. :)

I loved working with these stamps and I know I'll be using them again and again...especially with Christmas getting closer every day. :)

Thanks for stopping by!

A little scrappy share...

Lately I've been super busy crocheting and making hats to fill orders and designing my new Christmas hats (which will go into my shop in the next few days) so I haven't had a lot of time for much else...however I did squeeze this layout in a couple of weeks back using up some scraps from another page I was working on.  It's an old photo of the kids but one I LOVE.  Just them hanging out together on the trampoline...just like they do almost every day... love it!

I adore those little faces!  They've certainly grown since this pic was taken. Can't believe this was 3 years ago!  Time is flying by way too fast...

Hoping to have some more scrappy time soon!  I need more hours in the day at the moment.

Thanks so much for dropping  by!  :)

Snapshot of September

It's the end of another month.  I love September...don't you?  I find the first month of spring one of my favourite months of the year.  The weather has been absolutely gorgeous here on the Gold Coast!

Here are my collection of daily photos for this month...

Once again there's been lots of crafting going on here but we've also had a few beautiful days out and about too.  We've done some kayaking, trips to the beach, spent a day at Wet 'n' Wild and the soccer season wrapped up too which saw Ayden receive a trophy for Defender of the Year in his team!  So proud of him!

I hope you've had a great September too?

Pom Pom Garland

It's school holidays here at the moment and it's SO nice to have a break from school runs and to have the kids home.   They love that they can get up and do their own thing each day.  We haven't planned too many outings as Paul is working and as it turns out Ayden isn't well at the we've been keeping ourselves occupied at home.

We've been giving Madi's room a little makeover over the past few days.  She picked out a pretty new doona cover and we've totally rearranged her room for the first time since she can remember...and she LOVES her new look room!

Today we decided  to have a little crafty fun and make a pretty pom pom garland to hang on the wall to add a little more colour to the room.

Pom poms are so fun!  I remember making loads of pom poms when I was little.  Dad would cut out two donut shaped pieces of cardboard for me and I'd spend AGES threading yarn through the hole and round and round to make them. Nowadays there are quite a few plastic pom pom makers out there that you can buy but I've found just using your own fingers is a pretty quick and easy way to make pom poms and doesn't cost you anything.  I know I'm not the only one to make pom poms this way but if you haven't and you'd like to have a go I've taken a few step-by-step photos that I hope will help.

You'll need yarn, scissors and a crochet hook comes in handy too.

Simply wind the yarn round and round your fingers until you have a good thickness wrapped around then snip your yarn.

Cut another length of yarn to tie around the middle.  Now with all that yarn wrapped around your fingers it's almost impossible to thread a piece through your fingers so that's where the crochet hook really helps.  Poke the crochet hook through your fingers and pull the length of yarn through like this.

Then pull one end of the yarn up through your fingers leaving the other end on the other side of your hand.  Wrap that length of yarn around the middle of the layers and tie a loose knot.

Slip the whole lot carefully off your hand and tighten the knot around the middle.  You'll need to tie a double knot for extra strength.

Next go ahead and snip through all the loops to make your pom pom nice and fluffy.

Trim around your pom pom to get rid of all those messy  bits and make your pom pom nice and round.  You can see the difference below between the trimmed pom pom on the left and the messy one of the right.  The more you trim the smaller and tighter your pom pom becomes.

Here's our finished pile of trimmed pom poms.

To make the garland simply thread a long length of white yarn through the middle of each pom pom using a yarn needle.  They slide along the yarn which makes easy to adjust the space in between each one when you go to hang it up on the wall.  When you've got the finished garland length just right tie a knot on each end to help keep the first and last pom poms in place.

Then you're ready to go and hang your garland wherever you like!

It's such a fun, easy way to add a bit of colour to any room...and it's great for using up leftover scraps of yarn too!

Madi's already asking to make one out of Christmassy colours to hang up this Christmas.   :)

I hope you enjoyed this little tutorial!  If you make your own pom pom garland I'd love to see it!

Jot Magazine Issue 2!!!

Have you seen Issue 2 of Jot Magazine yet?  If not then you're missing out on loads of gorgeous inspiration and papery loveliness!

If you haven't read it yet then grab yourself a cuppa and head on over HERE for a good look!  It's FREE and I guarantee that if you love papercrafting then you're going to enjoy every page!

I've contributed this layout to the Selfies Gallery which you'll find in this issue of Jot.  These are older photos of Madi and I which I found in my phone from back in 2009.  This was before Madi started school so we'd spend quite a bit of time together in the car waiting for the boys to finish school and we'd sometimes snap a few fun selfies to help pass the time. :)

Here are a few close ups...

A little peek at my journaling card that's tucked in behind...

I love these colours all together.  Such a pretty combo!

I used some fun Lawn Fawn 'say cheese' and smiley face stamps under my title.  I think they're so cute!

I LOVE this issue of Jot and can't wait to see what Issue 3 brings! :)
